Dr Britta Rennkamp from the African Climate Development Initiative, together with Dr Murray Leibrandt from the African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Researh and Dr Anda David from the Agence Francaise de Development, recently published an article on South Africa’s just transition, originally published in Africa in Fact, Issue 60. Rennkamp and Leibrandt are both team leaders for two of TSITICA's research themes centred around climate change, social inequality, sustainable livelihoods and assessing climate actions.

The article navigates the complexities around South Africa’s path towards a just transition, addressing both the challenges and opportunities. In line with TSITICA’s work, the article stresses the importance of ensuring processes are inclusive of the most vulnerable.

The article answers questions such as: What does it mean to re-think the idea of a single “just-transition”? Why is it necessary to consider who gets left behind in processes of technological transformation? This piece delves into a broad range of key issues informing debates around the just transition in South Africa and the global South at large.

Please note the article was originally published in Africa in Fact, Issue 60.
